Cairns Montessori is an extended day kindergarten catering for children 15 months to school age, established by Amanda Munro in May 2009. Amanda continues to be involved in the day to day operations of Cairns Montessori as owner operator.

Montessori From a Child's Perspective

Let me:

• Be surrounded by beautiful objects that I'm allowed to touch
• Develop a sense of order that will help eliminate chaos from my world
• Work at my own pace without interruption so I feel valued
• Participate in daily activities that give me a sense of pride and self worth
• Work with materials that are self correcting, I don't need to always be told when I'm doing something wrong
• Become friendly with error, it is part of the learning process
• Be guided when help is needed or asked for
• Learn through consequences, if I drop something precious and it breaks, this is punishment enough
• Make my own choices so I develop my own perspective on what I like and dislike
• Discover a life long love of learning by finding motivation to 'work' intrinsically, I don't always need praise and rewards
• Be shown how to succeed by first demonstrating what I need to do and then allowing me to do it my way and repetitively if necessary
• Flourish in a setting that nurtures my potential no matter what my ability
