Prepared Environment

The prepared environment consists of 2 parts; the physical environment and the prepared adult.

The physical environment facilitates freedom of choice, independence, respect for nature and humanity whilst appealing to the child’s senses. It is set up as a mini community where the children gain a sense of belonging, ownership and pride.

A common response from visitors to a Montessori setting is that it is like a home created specifically for children.

The adult is a fundamental part of the child’s environment as he/she is the living bridge between the child and the environment and guides the child’s learning by role modelling respect for others and the environment whilst also taking great care to ensure the environment remains orderly and beautiful.
